We had a glorious one hour facial from Stephanie Slade who uses her own organic skincare range.

Millie Kendell: Co-founder of Beauty Mart

I can only describe this facial as having Angels playing on my face. Stephanie’s hand blended products smell wonderful and the massage technique is intuitive and really meaningful - does that make sense? She seems to know what you need and the entire experience is nurturing.

Under the expert hands of Stephanie Slade I had a soothing facial, only spoilt by the fact it was so relaxing I dropped off and so missed part of it!

Millie and I visited for our first ever BeautyMART away day, taking the opportunity to check out an interesting facialist we'd heard about - Stephanie Slade, a holistic therapist with 25 years experience who trained with Dr Hauschka and Ayuervedic guru Etrily Laitphlang.

Stephanie works in a shed - but what a shed - appropriately called The Snug: dark, womblike, candlelit, jewelled, aromatic - magical. Think of it as a treatment Tardis - what it looks like on the outside bears no relation to what goes on inside.

Stephanie's intuitive approach means that her touch flows with each breath and instinctively searches for and smooths out knots in the muscles (tight jaws, deep frowns) and skin stresses. Her fingers dance lightly over the face tapping, smoothing, sweeping and massaging. Her method is the antithesis of the structured, by rote approach of most facials where you can almost hear the therapist counting under their breath while watching the clock. Instead, the process of cleanse, massage, mask and nourish was seamless allowing the mind to wander while the skin responded to the pleasure of touch and all accompanied by real, rather than recorded, birdsong from birds in the trees under which The Snug is nestled.

Stephanie uses her own products, made and filled by hand, which smell wonderfully medicinal and aromatic. I floated out after a blissful 90 minutes realising that I'd had one of the top five facials of my life - and I've had a lot of facials.

That was one of the best facials I've ever had. Her hands have magic powers.
